Compounded has extensive experience in formulating pharmaceutical preparations in a variety of forms that can enhance the effectiveness of treatment for veterinary patients.

Capsules

Virtually any drug can be put into a capsule for use in veterinary medicine. The encapsulation process allows us to customize dosages for a particular animal very easily. We can take a product that is only available in a 20 mg tablet, for example and make a capsule that contains only 2 mg of the active drug. We also are able to compound some combinations of medications in one capsule so the pet owner may only have to pill once.

Recognizing that it is easiest to give animals very small capsules we always strive to use the smallest capsule possible. We also have a variety of capsules colors for those patients on multiple medications.

Liquids/Suspensions

Compounded has the ability to turn solid dosage forms into liquids/suspensions for almost all products.

Bitter drugs can be suspended into a liquid to make the medicine more palatable. Compounded has dozens of flavors to choose from so to please the most finicky pet. Medicines are delivered in a tinted bottle with an Adapta-Cap to prevent wastes and mess. An oral syringe is also provided.

Treating pets just got easier!

Dogs prefer meats, sweet, and cheese.
Cats prefer fish, meat and peanut butter.
Birds like fruity and sweet treats.
Rabbits like fruit or veggie treats.

Flavored Chewables

Flavored Chewables are great alternative for pets that have trouble taking normal tablets, capsules, or liquids. The active drug is measured precisely to the veterinarian's order, and then mixed thoroughly with a flavor base and gelatin.

There are two chewable sizes to accommodate a variety of strengths. Available flavors include:

  • Fish
  • Chicken
  • Liver

Flavored samples of our chewable pet medications are available to existing customers and veterinarians (with no medication). Flavored samples can be given to the pet to find the pet's preferred flavor. We can then compound your pet medication in a tasty chew that the difficult-to-treat pet will happily consume!

Transdermal Gels

Topical gels serve as a topical alternative to giving medications by mouth. A small amount of gel containing medication is rubbed into the hairless area on the front tip of the animal's ear.

The medication is absorbed through the skin and works in the same way if given orally. For pets who are not eating, have difficulty swallowing or otherwise refuse oral medications, transdermal drug delivery results in improved patient compliance and ease of use for pet owners.

While we have had success with a number of drugs used topically, not all medications may be given by this route. Our pharmacists are available to assist in determining if a drug is suitable for transdermal delivery.

Miscellaneous

We are able to compound a variety of other specialty items for use in your practice.

These include:

  • custom creams
  • otics
  • suppositories

At Compounded, we strive to meet all of your pet medication compounding needs. If you are having a dosage form issue or compliance problem with an animal please do not hesitate to contact us!
